The Langkawi International Airport is at Padang Matsirat,
on the western side of the island near the resorts of Pantai
Kok but a good 20 kilometres or so from the main city of Kuah
Town. The airport is in itself modern and capable of accommodating
large jumbo jets and upwards of 2.5 million passangers yearly
(although number of actual arrivals is considerably less than
that).
Malaysia's flag carrier, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has several
daily flights to Langkawi from Kuala Lumpur International
Airport (KLIA). And Malaysia's home grown budget airline,
Air Asia, now also has daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to
Langkawi. International direct flights to Langkawi come from
London, Osaka and Taipei and Singapore on Silkair, a subsidiary
of Singapore Airlines with four direct flights a week.
