As mentioned above, as long as you are on land transport you
will ultimately end up needing to take a ferry. As such if
you are driving up from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru or Singapore,
you need to follow the signs to the nearest Jetty Terminal.
There is clear signage indicating the correct highway exit.
After reaching Kedah, follow the signs for "Alor
Setar Selatan" and "Langkawi".
Once at Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis, you may leave your auto
car at a private car park for a small amount (RM8.00/per day).
You could, if you really wanted, take an auto to Langkawi
using a cargo ship. It's quite expensive (approximately RM
160.00 for the return trip) and takes one night to deliver
(meaning that you will need to wait until the next day to
retrieve your auto at Tanjung Lembung port terminal).
Drive time from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kedah is approximately
six hours and approximately seven hours to Kuala Perlis. There
are also any number of buses departing daily from KL to Alor
Setar and Kuala Kedah. Do contact the local bus operators
at the Pudu Raya bus depot for fares and departure times.
